Another sick week... 12-17-2018

Image
We had to go to Accra to meet with President so we took some much needed pictures  at the temple. :) SO this time my companion was very sick for the past week. It made it very difficult to get out yet again, but we were able to make it work! I want to first tell you all about Anna. On Sunday, we confirmed her and she was so happy. After church, we went to visit her and she said she felt this overwhelming spirit fill her whole body. She said she felt like her spirit was elevated and that she felt much closer to the Savior. Then she said that when she went to Relief Society that she was answering questions and she was able to give a lot more contributions than she usually would be able to. She said that something inside of her felt more confident. I can't remember if I wrote about this or not but the girl that Anna lived with was totally against the church and she didn't want anything to do with it. She had been told by many people that we worship devils and ...

A very, very long week... 12-10-2018

Anna's Baptism Well not much happened this past week, since I sat in my bed for half of it staring at the ceiling and inside the toilet, ha ha. Being sick is definitely the worst thing on a mission because you have absolutely nothing to do, ha ha. But it's okay! I got to sleep a lot which was kind of nice, ha ha! We were sitting around after church and this little girl was playing with us and she asked if she could take pictures with my camera, ha ha. She told me to pose for her and this is the pose she told me to do, ha ha. So since really nothing happened, I just want to tell you about Saturday and Sunday. We were preparing sister Anna for her baptism and had a few things to review and go over with her to make sure she understood everything. She remembered everything, ha ha. The last thing I talked to her about was the sacrifice Joseph Smith went through in order to bring us this church. She was really touched by it and told us so a couple of times. Wh...

A very surprising end to the week... 12-3-2018

Our "Kindness is..." board. This past week was very busy, ha ha. Tuesday was zone conference, Wednesday was interviews with the mission president and then we had a "Light the World" activity at the Achimota mall on Saturday!  When it came to teaching this week, we weren't very successful, but I want to tell you guys three amazing things that happened! For the "Light the World" activity on Saturday, we set up a table with a TV that was playing the "Light the World" video and then we had people playing the guitar, the piano and we sang carols. We were trying to get people that walked by to be curious about what "Light the World" promotion is.  My job was different though. We set up a whiteboard that said "Kindness is...." What we had people do was to take a picture of themselves in front of the board and their answer that they had written on the board. Then we asked them to post in on social media. ...

I don't know where to start for this past week! 11-26-2018

Isata before her baptism. :) We had a baptism! We baptized Isata and it was such a wonderful experience! The coolest part about her baptism was the day before her interview. I went over to her house to review some of the interview questions with her the night before her interview. I felt inspired to ask her this question, "Why are you joining this church? So many other churches are claiming to be true, so why did you choose this one?" She said with no hesitation,  "I didn't choose this church. God directed me to join this church through the influence of other people."  Let me just say, the spirit was definitely there. She is such a wonderful person and I am so excited for her choice to follow Christ and join his true church. :)   We had to clean the baptismal  font on Saturday. The drain pipe was buried in dirt so we had to dig it out...AND DON'T LAUGH AT HOW WHITE MY  LEGS ARE  COMPARED TO MY ARMS..... #ghanaishot ON Thursday, ...

A fun week with an amazing end! 11-19-2018

This past week was pretty interesting in a few different ways, ha ha. First off, my companion was sick for a few days so it slowed down the work a bit, but in the end things were able to work out! Hike up to the water falls in Aburi. Let's start off with some funny stories shall we? First we went to go visit a women named Patience. She sells drinks and crackers and other things by a school so when they close from school all the kids come and buy a small snack from her. Well we were at her place right before school ended, so a huge swarm of about thirty kids came over and it was insane! First, they saw these two white guys and were so surprised, ha ha. Then they starting speaking in Twi so my companion started using all the Twi we know to talk to them. They were freaking out! Then one kid asked if we can speak Ewe, well I had to think back really hard to the Ewe I knew and they freaked out even more! They kept asking all these ridiculous questions like, "Were ...

A hard week finally paid off! 11-12-2018

Good old rain in Ghana! This past week was extremely hot, lots of rain, and not much success trying to find new people. BUT.... We have finally found three people who are showing some real potential! First let's start with Anna. We met her two weeks ago and I talked about her in my letter last week. This past week while trying to see her we learned that she had gotten a new job in a different area and honestly I was quite disappointed because it meant that she would have to move. Well! She didn't have to move because someone in our area offered to give her a room for super cheap! So she is staying! Even better she came to church and she loved it! A member asked her if she liked the sacrament meeting and she said she loved it because you could feel the spirit as people were talking. The Relief Society loved her and it made her feel like she was at home. I am so happy! She is really reading the Book of Mormon and is loving it! It was a hot long day, so ...

New month, new area and new companion! 11-3-2018

My trainer Elder Sebuliba just went home! I am so thankful for what he taught me! Our last district picture So me, Elder Williams, and Elder Letsiomo all came the same day to Ghana and were  in the same district so we took a photo together. Well this past week has honestly been super good! I mean learning a new area is always difficult but I have a wonderful companion who is making things a lot easier! This past week has had some pretty interesting experiences. My companion fell in a street gutter, ripping a pretty nice hole in his pants! But he is okay, by the way, ha ha! No cuts or anything!  The fans are really bad, ha ha. You can barely even feel the wind blowing on your face at night so that's always nice! But the apartment is a much nicer apartment than my old area, so I am currently enjoying it a lot.    This is the first member I met. Her name is Mary. My new companion is  Elder Eliason from Arizona. ...

I am leaving Batsonaa!

The progression of my sunburn, ha ha ha. After six months I am finally leaving this wonderful place. I am truly going to miss this place. I have had so much fun and have had so many memories here that I don't think I will never forget. Mission is an amazing experience. We are able to go around to new areas, meet new people and see new cultures. I'm sure that most returned missionaries know just what I am describing. IT is the greatest experience of a lifetime.  This past week was rough, ha ha. To begin with, I got burned really bad while we were at the beach this past Monday. I put sunscreen on my whole body except for where my socks were... Well when I got to the beach I removed my socks and forgot to add sunscreen...... So this whole past week was extremely painful. They got blistered and swelled up super bad so I wasn't actually able to walk most of Saturday.....  To top that off, my companion got really sick on Thursday and Friday...  It w...

One year down!

Exchange with Elder Wilson Officially I have been in Ghana for over one year!  My one year celebration! :) Let me just start off by saying, I can't even believe it's been a whole year. When I woke up that day, it didn't even cross my mind until someone asked when I would hit my one year mark. I was like, "That's today!!" SO, I can't' even tell you what an amazing journey it has been. I have loved every second of it. I truly have.  KFC for our one year!  I want to share with you a really cool experience that happened to us the other day. My companion and I decided to set aside two hours to find new people to teach. As we were going, we stopped at a fork in the road and I asked him where we should go. He pointed to the right. As we were walking up the road, he noticed someone sitting in their shop alone so we went and talked to him. We got talking and he asked us what church we were from. We said the name and he said, "I ...
