A very surprising end to the week... 12-3-2018
Our "Kindness is..." board.
This past week was very busy, ha ha. Tuesday was zone conference, Wednesday was interviews with the mission president and then we had a "Light the World" activity at the Achimota mall on Saturday!
When it came
to teaching this week, we weren't very successful, but I want to tell you guys three amazing things that happened!
For the "Light the World" activity on Saturday, we set up a table with a TV that was playing the "Light the World" video and then we had people playing the guitar, the piano and we sang carols. We were trying to get people that walked by to be curious about what "Light the World" promotion is.
My job was different though. We set up a whiteboard that said "Kindness is...." What we had people do was to take a picture of themselves in front of the board and their answer that they had written on the board. Then we asked them to post in on social media.
By the way, I did not write my own name on the board it was another Elder, ha ha.
We also invited them write down their name and number to allow us to contact them again so we can teach them more about the gospel. In four hours we had sixty-two names! It was a great surprise to have so many! All of them were completely willing! We had probably double that amount of people just come and ask us what, "Light the World" was and they also wrote on the board. It was so fun but so spiritual. I think that every missionary there was feeling the spirit. Every time someone looked at us they smiled because I assume they felt the spirit was there just like we did. :)
A nap for my companion, Elder Eliason, in a taxi, ha ha.
This experience was even better! We were able to confirm Sister Isata
yesterday! The funny thing about it though was we had to run back to the
apartment because we forgot her baptismal record, ha ha. We actually missed
watching her get confirmed, ha ha. But afterwords, she told us she absolutely
loved it! It was a very powerful moment. :) I also want to mention something that she said in our class during Sunday School. We were talking about what it
really meant to fear God. Isata said this, "Fearing God doesn't mean being
scared he will punish us for doing something wrong, fearing God is respecting
and loving him." How true what she said is. :) Let us not be afraid of God, instead
let's love and respect him for all that He has done for us. ;)
I got a picture with Rantsford, a man who I gave a Book of Mormon to and referred to missionaries in his area six months ago.
Then for the craziest thing of all. About six months ago I
was getting pizza with my companion and we sat next to a guy that I have
never met. I felt prompted to talk to him and my comp said to just say hi. So
we started talking and he asked what we did. I explained very quickly that we
were missionaries and I gave a very quick explanation of the BOM. I took his
number, sent it to the missionaries in his area and we left. I never thought about
him ever again. Well, yesterday was a musical fireside at the temple site in Accra. After the fireside, an elder came up to me with a man I didn't recognize.
Well after a short conversation the man next to the elder said, "My name
is Rantsford, you gave me the Book of Mormon in the pizza place six months ago..."
My jaw dropped to the floor! I was so overwhelmed with the spirit I couldn't
even keep myself calm. He continued to tell me that the same day I gave him the
Book of Mormon he didn't sleep that entire night because he couldn't stop
reading it. I was so shocked. This whole time I have been sad because I haven't
been having as much success as I was hoping for. But this was the Lord's way of
telling me that my job is to plant seeds and that is what I did.
This year, "Light the World" everyone. Take it serious. Help
those in need. Miracles will happen if you serve faithfully.
Sincerely,
