Best Sunday ever :)
Cleaning the font, ha ha. I am sporting a new style. It looks great right? :p
Well, let me just say, this past week we worked like animals. We were going all over the place trying to get people to come to church. We went and visited everyone who said they would come every day..... but it paid off!
Before I talk about Sunday, I will share a funny/sad story, ha ha. We were biking on a dirt road going to meet with some
investigators and I generally like to bike really fast, ha ha. I always get to the
people's house just ahead of my companion. When I stopped, I greeted the people and then I looked back to check on my companion. As I looked back I saw him
flying over his handlebars and slamming down on the ground! I was in shock! I didn't understand what had happened! I asked my companion if he was okay.
He was laying flat on his face, and he lifted his head up just enough to look and
me and said, "ow". Apparently, his handlebars came a little
loose so they twisted without the tire moving and it threw him off the
front of his bike, ha ha. I honestly felt so bad! But he was okay, just banged up a
little bit. In the end of it all, there wasn't a single spec of dirt on his
shirt. The Lord does the greatest miracles, I have ever seen. :) ha ha!
This is another funny and kind of a cool story. On Friday
night, my companion and I had to go and clean the baptismal font to prepare for
the baptism that we had scheduled for Saturday. Well while we started biking there, I got lost, ha ha. I
had no idea where we were. My companion kept asking me, "Are you sure you
know where you are going?" and me being me I said, "Of course I do!
Don't worry!" Well I didn't, ha ha. At one point, we got to a turn and we
could either go left or straight. He asked one last time, "Are you
sure this is the way?" I looked at him and said to him, "Let the Holy Spirit guide." I honestly said it as a joke, ha ha. Just to make him
laugh, but almost immediately after I said that, I had a distinct impression to
go left. So we did, and sure enough, we found the chapel right down that road.
Man, the Lord really saved me on that one, ha ha ha!
Oh and Saturday we had a baptism! We baptized a kid named
Frank. He was baptized four years ago and was never confirmed. There was no
record of him even being baptized, so we had to re-do it to make it all
complete. He was so happy! He bore his testimony the day after. It
was so powerful to hear how he was converted and that he was so happy to finally be in
the true church.
Frank's baptism
Well we had six investigators in church as well! We haven't
been able to have more than two in three months! It was so amazing to have them all
come and they all loved it! The best part though was one of the girls who
came is named Kazia (she is 9). She pulled me out of the third hour to ask me a
question, she said the greatest thing I have ever heard. She said, "Elder
Baird, Can I come again next Sunday? I want to know if it is okay with you so I
can ask my mom if I can come again." My heart honestly melted when she
said that. I knelt down in front of her and said, "Kazia, I would love it
if you could keep coming every Sunday." She was so happy and said
thank you and ran off to her class again. I was so surprised to hear that from
her. I love her so much. I love this church and I love being a
missionary. Every day something amazing happens and it's just the greatest
experience ever! :)
I love you all and hope you have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,
Elder Baird
Mom's notes:
1. He had a "super bad cold" this past weekend but he is doing good now.
2. He is convinced that if I sent him a Spikeball set that he can fit it in his suitcases.
3. He had a guy from Kaysville at church this past Sunday. He works for the church and had some meetings there. Elder Baird knows his son from school so he thought that was really cool to talk to him.
4. His area is called Batsonaa 1. His apartment is on Spintex road, he thinks that his city is Accra (not sure though). He is in the Tema zone.
5. He feels that it is slightly terrifying that Brendon will be driving when he gets home. ;)
6. This week they are following up on a bunch of investigators and they have a combined FHE. They combine with families around the Bishop's house. They split the ward into zones so every month they do a zone FHE. He says that it brings the ward together. The ward boundaries are really big so everyone is really far away from each other.
7. He loves the area. It is hard work but it comes with a lot of rewards.
