Another sick week... 12-17-2018
We had to go to Accra to meet with President so we took some much needed pictures
at the temple. :)
SO this time my companion was very sick for the past week. It made it very difficult to get out yet again, but we were able to make it work!
I want to first tell you all about Anna. On Sunday, we confirmed her
and she was so happy. After church, we went to visit her and she said she felt this overwhelming spirit fill her whole body. She said she felt like her
spirit was elevated and that she felt much closer to the Savior. Then she said that when she went to Relief Society that she was answering questions and she was able to give a lot more
contributions than she usually would be able to. She said that something inside of her felt more
confident. I can't remember if I wrote about this or not but the girl that Anna lived with was totally against the church and she didn't want anything to do with it. She had been told by many people that we worship devils and what not.
Well one day, Anna was reading in the "Gospel Principles" book about the
second coming and her friend walked by her and saw a picture of Christ coming
down from heaven and she said, "Wait, you actually worship Christ?" Anna
said "Of course we do! All we teach about is salvation and returning to our Heavenly Father and that the first step is baptism." Her friend came to us
and said that she needs to be baptized and she wants to know if this church is actually
true! I was so shocked to hear her say that! It's amazing how the spirit works
within people to help them to see the truth. :)
The next thing that I want to tell you is a pretty great story as well. :) We were on our way to go and see an investigator and on the way a man inside a bar saw us
and he said, "Latter day saints! Come here!" So we did, ha ha. He had us
sit down in this little bar on the side of the road. There were three tables and about eight chairs. After he introduced himself, he started talking about
nonsense, ha ha. He was pretty drunk. My companion didn't want to give
him the time of day. But on the other side of the bar, a man was watching
us. I decided to wait and see what would happen. The drunk man then
said, "What do you teach?" I said boldly, "We are the
one and only true church on the earth because God's proper priesthood authority
was given to a true prophet of God in these last days."
The drunk man was going off in some random tangent of nonsense, but the guy on the other
side of the bar looked very interested. He came over and sat next to me. My
companion was keeping the drunk distracted while I talked with this other man.
He introduced himself as Jesly. He asked me to say what I had said again. Than
he asked me what proves that Joseph Smith was a true prophet? I gave him a Book of
Mormon and testified of it, explained it very briefly and asked him to read it.
He said he would love for us to come the next day and teach him. So we did. We had
a wonderful lesson that next day. It was so spiritual and the spirit indeed
touched his heart. Then the next day he came to church and loved it. We had him
meet with our bishop just to introduce him and Jesly told the bishop this
statement. "Bishop, I haven't told the Elders this yet, but that first
day they came into that bar I felt something leave me. All my stress and anxiety left
me and I felt a peace come over me. Every time I see them that peace is there
with me." He wants to be baptized and can't wait until he can.
A crazy
drunk man stopped us and we thought that it was a waste of our time. Come to find
out, the Lord used that man to allow us to meet Jesly. I am so thankful I have
met him and can't wait to continue teaching him.
This week is, "Light Your Family". So to do that we went to the mall
and set up some computers and we helped people begin FamilySearch accounts in
order to start their family tree. It was so cool! People were
absolutely loving it! They couldn't believe that a church would be so focused on
this type of thing. As I helped people begin their account, they were excited and
happy to be a part of this work. SO GO AND LIGHT YOUR FAMILY! Do something to
make some one's day! Help them to feel of the Savior's love that He has for them!
I love you all and hope you have a great week! :)
Sincerely,
Elder Baird
