One year down!
Exchange with Elder Wilson
Officially I have been in Ghana for over one year!
My one year celebration! :)
Let me just start off by saying, I can't even believe it's
been a whole year. When I woke up that day, it didn't even cross my mind until
someone asked when I would hit my one year mark. I was like, "That's today!!"
SO, I can't' even tell you what an amazing journey it has been. I have
loved every second of it. I truly have.
KFC for our one
year!
I want to share with you a really cool experience that
happened to us the other day. My companion and I decided to set aside two hours
to find new people to teach. As we were going, we stopped at a fork in the road
and I asked him where we should go. He pointed to the right. As we were walking
up the road, he noticed someone sitting in their shop alone so we went and
talked to him. We got talking and he asked us what church we were from. We said the
name and he said, "I was baptized into this church in Rome in 1988. I
attended for two years but moved to an area where there was no branch. So I
wasn't able to attend anymore. " He said that he didn't have much interest
to go anymore because he married a Catholic lady. Then he said, "Thank you for
reminding me about this church because you have reminded me of someone who
really influenced me to join the church. He said he would love to have us come around
this week to meet with his wife and three kids." I was so touched by the
experience. I didn't expect it to happen but it did.
A lady in the other ward is from the US. She bought me macaroni
and cheese and root beer. :)
This past week was a difficult week. No one came to
church, I was extremely tired and had a really hard time having the energy to
work. I will be honest, something came and pushed me from behind and helped
me keep going. This work is not easy. I will tell you that right now. But in
the past year, I have been here I have learned to really rely on the Lord. Let
me just say, this area has not been easy at all. I have been upset time and time
again with seeing no real success that can be seen.
A good old activity
at the beach! Everyone loved the spike ball my mom sent me. :)
I do know that the Lord
doesn't need to see our success by how many people we baptize. He sees our
success by the diligence we have for His work. I have loved this work so much
and I would never replace this time for anything is the world. This church is true. I
will never doubt it is true because I have seen how it
changes peoples lives. I am sorry for such a short letter but I just
wanted to keep it short and simple this week. I love you all so much and hope
that you all have a wonderful week. :)
Sincerely,
Elder Baird
Stake Conference with my companion, Brother Samuel.
Mom's notes:
1. He was pretty surprised to see his Dad gutting a fish when we were camping last weekend.
2. He will find out about transfers next week.
