A new companion!
Elder Kallay playing
with a little girl who stole his sunglasses, ha ha.
My companion, Elder Kallay, has gone home as of today.
I am really going to miss him. He was a wonderful example of a missionary and he was super good example to all those who were around him. I am honored to say I was with him,
even though it was for only three weeks, ha ha.
Saying goodbye to Elder Kallay.
Farewell pizza dinner for Kallay.
I am now with brother, Samuel
Avaiyega, who is a ward missionary. President Keyes had an idea to let him be my
companion for three weeks. So it's like I am pre-training him for the MTC which he
will report to in forty-five days. I am super excited to serve with him and to see what
the next few week will have in store for me!
My new companion Brother Samuel.
Last week we had a really cool experience happen! We were
going to a lesson and when we got there we learned that the man we were supposed to
see had traveled. I was pretty annoyed because that was the third lesson
in a row to be cancelled. As we were leaving the compound we rode past a guy
who saw us and called us over. He said he was taught by missionaries two years ago but traveled to his home town for some time and lost contact with the
church. He said he is ready to come back and to begin learning again. Honestly,
I was so shocked! I was so annoyed by having lessons fall through but
apparently that was exactly what the Lord had planned for us. I was
very humbled by the experience because it showed me that the Lord's plans and
our plans are different.
We were supposed to baptize Vanessa on Sunday but her
mother felt like we should hold it off for some time. She didn't have a reason for it but she just wants us to wait. But that is okay!
Maybe a little more time is what she needs, so we will be patient and wait until
the day the Lord wants her to be baptized. :)

SO I don't know about you guys but I thought General
Conference was amazing! Like holy cow it was powerful! When President Nelson
was giving his talk during the women's session I just had chills the whole time.
The spirit was honestly so strong and the spirit was testifying to me that he is indeed
the Lords chosen prophet. Even our investigator, Quinstar, who came felt the same
thing. After conference, she said that she wishes she could watch it again because she
loved how spiritual the whole thing was.
The highlight that we all need to
remember is President Nelson's call to repentance for the entire church. We are
no longer LDS or Mormons, we are members of the Church of JESUS CHRIST of
Latter Day Saints. This is His church so we must honor His name. I can testify
that this is his true church and that Satan will do anything to remove the name
of the church. It was Satan's plan for us to be named Mormons in order to remove
Jesus Christ from the name. Well, thanks to President Nelson he was able to see
past it and is now asking us to change.
This is the Lord's church and this is His work. Let's follow his
chosen prophet in these last days. It is possible, but may be difficult, but if
we are all united, we can accomplish anything. I love you all and hope you have
a wonderful week. :)
Sincerely,
Elder Baird
A cool picture from
an area called Okpoi-gonno.
1. He is pretty excited about Kiera being engaged. :)
2. He can't believe that his cousin Ephram is old enough to be baptized!
3. He is jealous that we can carve pumpkins. (It must not be a thing in Ghana.)
4. A man from Elder Baird's ward is coming to visit us Wednesday night. He is here on business. We are super excited to meet him. Elder Baird said that him and Brother Ubakaeze (that's his name) have been planning it for several weeks. :)
5. He said that Elder Kallay is going home to go to school and be a pharmacist. They were only serving together for three weeks but he says that he is really going to miss him.
6. He is amazed that Brendon can fit in his soccer cleats!
Dear Baird Family,
ReplyDeleteMissionaries! aren't they so wonderful? Their white, white shirts, and yet they are as humble as the little, tiny homes in the background. Landon looks so happy and we loved his testimony as seeing God's plan for His children, that He is so aware of who we are, where we are, and who we can serve, when. Uncle Rex always says "Go give them Heaven." Aunt Linda adds, " And once you do , some of Heaven rubs off on you." So glad his grandma Carol got to talk to him before she left on her mission. Likely, she is sharing Landon's with him right now. Love, The Brownings
