New month, new area and new companion! 11-3-2018
Our last district picture
So me, Elder
Williams, and Elder Letsiomo all came the same day to Ghana and were
in the
same district so we took a photo together.
Well this past week has honestly been super good! I mean
learning a new area is always difficult but I have a wonderful companion who is
making things a lot easier!
This past week has had some pretty interesting experiences.
My companion fell in a street gutter, ripping a pretty nice hole in his pants!
But he is okay, by the way, ha ha! No cuts or anything!
The fans are really bad, ha ha. You can barely even feel the wind blowing on your face at night so that's
always nice! But the apartment is a much nicer apartment than my old area, so I
am currently enjoying it a lot.
Elder Eliason from Arizona.
I want to share two really cool experiences from this past
week. First, my companion met a man recently who was a member from Koforidua
and he just recently moved to this area. Sadly, he is going blind and he is beginning
to have a really hard time seeing. He needed us to come take him to church. We told him that we would be by his house at 8:30 to walk him over to the church, which
isn't very far away. As we walked into the church, he was so excited to finally be there! This past Sunday was fast Sunday so he jumped at the opportunity to
share a beautiful testimony. Then later during elders quorum we were talking
about ministering companions, and he raised his hand and said, "I need a
companion right now." When he said this, my heart was touched. This
man has a great excuse not to do ministering, but he knows that a prophet of the Lord has asked us to do it. He said that he will be doing it as much as he
possibly can. When we were walking him home, he told me how much this church means to him and how amazing the temple is. I love this man and can't wait to continue meeting with him!
Okay for the second story, after we were bringing the old
man home (by the way his name is George, ha ha) a girl stopped us right outside
his gate. The missionaries have met her in the past but she traveled and they had lost
contact with her. Well she stopped us and said, "I was on my way to your
church but couldn't find the building and I was so sad I couldn't come and see
it for myself."
Well we took her to the chapel to show her where it
was and then she asked if we could teach her. SO we taught her the plan of
salvation. That was probably one of the most spiritual lessons I have ever
experienced. My companion and I were so in tune to the spirit and were able to
really help her to understand the message of the plan of salvation. At the end
of the lesson, I asked her how she felt? She said that she just felt so happy and
felt touched by this message because she has never heard about this before.
After the lesson, I looked at my companion and said, "Did you feel
that?" His response was, "Of course I did! She is a golden
investigator!" She really is. She wants to meet with us again tomorrow so I
am super excited to get to meet with her once again. :)

chapel balcony of the area.
I love this work. I really do. I have said this so much to
you all but I just can't stop saying it. It's such a wonderful experience being
a missionary. To be able to feel the spirit so strongly testify to these amazing people is
just such an incredible experience! I love Ghana. I love the Book of Mormon, and I
love The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This is the Lord's church.
I know it with every fiber of my being.
Sincerely,
Mom's notes:
1. He is really enjoying his new area. He says that is a lot of walking though! They don't ride bikes much because, "the roads are so stinking bad!"
2. His apartment is a lot nicer and cleaner. He is pretty happy about that.
3. His new companion is Elder Eliason from Arizona and "He is awesome!" Elder Baird is hoping that he will get two transfers with him. Elder Eliason is apparently, " ... funny, loves sports and is a super happy guy. He greets everyone and it is awesome, ha ha!"
4. Hi first baptism, Norkplim, is getting endowed in January and Elder Baird is super happy because he will get to go.
5. He says that his area is hot and the roads are terrible but that there are a lot of people to be taught. :)
6. When I asked about the area and his new ward he told me that, "It's a big area but there are just a lot of houses really
close together and they aren't all gates! (Which he is happy about because, "This way the people are
sitting outside instead of in their gated compound") The church is good. The building
is super nice."
7. I asked him what food does he cook for himself. This is his answer, "Foods I made is indomei which is like ramen, ha ha, and a rice
with a tomato stew. In my last area though I had a lot of American stores so I
bought pasta packets, pasta, pizza and yeah. But now I am just buying outside like at rice stands, chop bars where I can get fufu and stuff until I can find things to make But
actually we have been fed a ton by members here so it has been really nice
8. This week they will be visiting a few referrals and trying to build their teaching pool.
