Well it seems like I can't run away from getting sick, ha ha. But that is okay. In six weeks it should get better, I hope! This is
official start of my last transfer in Ghana. Elder Smith will be going
home this week and I will get a new companion named Elder Niu from Tonga. Last
transfer, last companion. I don't want this to end yet. But, all things must
come to an end!
So from Thursday to today I have been sick so I literally laid in bed since then so not much really happened, ha ha. I will try my best to make this a longer letter than last week. On Saturday, we had the opportunity to go and participate in the baptisms that Elder Warr and Elder Adebesin were doing. They had a total of six baptisms on Saturday. He will go home this week. It is a wonderful way to end your mission having the opportunity to baptize that many people. While I was observing the service a thought came to me. As awesome as it is to say you baptized six people the weekend before you leave, it's even more awesome to see the conversion of these people.
I have seen it this last
week because I called all the people I have helped to be baptized and the love
they have for the gospel is just breathtaking. I really had the chance to kind
of look back on my mission as a whole so far and realize all the things I have
been able to be a part of. I truly love it here.
Another really cool thing that happened is that after we left the baptism.
While we were walking to go and get a taxi a man pulled up next to us and asked where
we were going. We told him and he said "Get in, I live just around the
corner but you are doing the Lord's work so I need to give you a lift." When we were in the car he began praising us for the work we are doing and then he began to share a really cool story as to why he loves the missionaries. He
said, "4 years ago I was on a bus and while getting off I dropped my phone
and didn't realize that I did. So I walked about fifteen minutes away before I realized that I had dropped it, so I went back for it. When I got back I saw a few people
fighting over a phone claiming it was theirs, and that is when some of your
brothers dressed in a white shirt and tie asked them for the phone so they can
find the owner. Right after that I walked up to them and asked to prove it was
my phone by giving them the password. They put in the password and gave me back
my phone. From that experience I have learned that I can trust you guys. So whenever
I see you guys I want to give back to you all for the kindness shown by your
brothers four years ago."
I hope that is a reminder for us all to make
sure we stand as examples of Christ at all times because we never know who is
watching.
Being a missionary is amazing. Being an ambassador for
Christ is even better. What truly matters is if we ourselves are becoming
Lifelong Disciples of Christ. If you are doing that, you will truly be rewarded
for your efforts in bringing Christ's lost sheep back to him.
Sincerely,
Elder Baird
