This was probably my best week in terms of food, ha ha! 4-1-2019
Pizza party with our District!
Well this past week has been quite an interesting one! To
start off with, as you can see in the title of my letter that I ate some super
good food. First on Tuesday, after district council we went as a district to go
and eat pizza. Our Zone Leaders said that there is a buy one get one free deal
at a pizza place if you order the jumbo size. He was convinced that we needed four jumbo pizzas in order to feed six elders and two sisters. I will just say, he was
entirely wrong, ha ha ha. We ended up eating only two of the pizzas, ha ha. Then while
on an exchange with Elder Cockett we went and ate chicken wraps and fries. On the next
morning, we got pancakes eggs and bacon. On Saturday, we got expensive
fried rice! Lastly, we had to extend the exchange for a few reasons and we were
able to go to what is called the Kempinski Hotel. It is the largest five star
hotel in Ghana.... and it was a buffet.... so I just about died, ha ha ha. It was
so awkward to be there, because I haven't been in such a nice place in so long, ha ha ha! We had a super good time and had a blast! :)
Now onto our lessons! Once again, we went to go and teach
Sarah (the girl who read and took all the notes from the story of Ammon). We
had given her the assignment to read the story in 1 Nephi 3 and 4 and to read the Word
of Wisdom pamphlet. As usual, she wrote down all of the things she had learned
from both. Then I asked her, "How does the story of Nephi and the Word of
Wisdom relate?" She sat there for a second thinking and then answered with
this, "Well, Nephi followed the commandments from God even though he didn't
fully understand why and just like the Word of Wisdom, we need to follow the
commandment even though we do not fully understand why God has said we can't take
certain substances." I was quite shocked with that answer because I
was going to talk about how Laban was drunken with wine and that shows what
will happen when we abuse those substance, ha ha. I liked her answer much
more. :)
The next thing that I want to tell you is about this super cool guy we met named Isaac. While
walking around Elder Crockett saw someone just sitting by himself and he said that
we should go and talk to him. So we did! We introduced ourselves and told him who we
are and what not, and then I felt prompted to ask if he had any questions we
could help him answer. Then he looked us both in the eye and said, "Where
is the true church? That is all I want to know." Then we started to have a
lesson and it was amazing. He fully accepted everything and he was so happy to hear
that the power of God is indeed back on this earth. It was a really cool
experience because I didn't see him and I would have just walked right by. Thankfully, my companion saw him and listened to the Spirit which prompted him
to go and see him. He had a question that we could answer boldly.
I don't really have much else for you all this week but I
just hope that everything is going well back home! Because General Conference is
coming up I urge each and every one of you to ask a question in your prayers
and I can promise that it will be answered by one of the amazing
speakers. I want you to know that I fully sustain President Nelson and that
whatever he says is from God. I will also urge each and every one of
you to find that testimony within yourself to say that you will follow him no
matter what.
Sincerely,
Elder Baird
Mom's notes:
1. I got this text from Elder Baird this morning at 6:16 am:
"I just got this text from President:"
"As we get closer to the second coming the church needs to raise the bar and baptize more people. In order to achieve this the length of missions for young missionaries have with immediate effect been increased as follows: 2 years for sisters and 2 and half years for Elders. There are certain conditions that pertain to this increase in time. You need to view these conditions in my letter today. Please read my letter before 12 noon. Please sustain President Nelson. He has a tough job to do in these last days."
I didn't realize that it was April 1st until about 8:00 am...... not cool.
He did get the text from his Mission President. Guess his President likes April Fool's day just like Elder Baird. (insert eye roll...)
