I hope that you all loved General Conference! 4-8-2019
Watching conference at Bishop's house. (Thanks for sharing Alixa).
Let me just start by saying that Conference was absolutely
amazing. WE truly are led by a prophet of God and his twelve Apostles.
We got done teaching a lesson and this little kid was taking a nap,
so I decided to take a picture. :)
Alright, so let me talk about how our week went. First, we
had a really cool opportunity to visit with and teach two new people who were
basically jumping at us to teach them! The fried rice place that we like to go to and eat at every week has become a very normal place for us to be. We are super
close friends with all of the employees and the owners so we have had a lot of fun
visiting with them. For about a month now, we have been teaching a women who
works in a shop next to the fried rice place. So us going and teaching her a
lesson and then buying rice is quite common so people who work in the fried
rice place see us teaching her about every other day. Well the delivery guy for the
rice is named Moses and he came up to my companion and said, "I have never
attended church before, and I don't really know Christ. Please, teach me so I
can know more!" He was very persistent, ha ha, and every time we pass by he
is like, "Are we learning today??" We haven't actually had the time
to sit down and have a lesson with him yet, but this week we will for sure find
time. Then a few days after that, we were teaching Sarah (the girl in the
shop next door) and her friend Elizabeth came out from the fried rice place and
said, "I always see you teaching her, so I want to be a part of it
now!" Of course, we welcomed her and taught her a lesson on tithing and
what is the purpose of it. She loved it and asked if we can continue to teach
her so that she can maybe one day come to church with us!
Elder Klinglesmith eating kenkey. (Not to happy about it either.)
He tells me that it is like banku but more fermented.
Hairy pigskin with the kenkey (Elder Baird says that it tickles your throat
on the way down...oh my!)
This experience is even cooler! I met a women named Madua
about two weeks ago while we were on an exchange with Elder Crockett. She asked us where
we were from and if we know a senior couple somewhere in the Cape Coast. I didn't
know them but I asked her how she did. She explained that she was good friends
with a mission president about twenty years ago while some missionaries were
teaching her. Then she asked, "What is the Book of Mormon?" We
scheduled a time to meet with her and we were able to meet her this last Friday. We sat down and answered all her questions about the Book of Mormon. When we
were done she said, "WOW! I didn't know any of this! I really need to read
this book to find out if this is the true church!" After our lesson, she told us her brother is an active member somewhere else in Ghana. So she
called him so I could speak to him. The first thing he said was this, "Oh
Elders, my sister and I were baptized twenty years ago but ever since then she
stopped attending the church." I was like WHAT?? She is actually a member
but as we asked her some questions we discovered that because of some of her friends they convinced her that it wasn't true by using false accusations against the church. So she left shortly after
she was baptized. Then she called her three kids over and said that two of them have
wanted to join the church for years because their Uncle used to take them to
church all the time. But she always felt nervous to go to the church herself.
Well we invited her to come back and bring her kids. Well guess what?? They
came! Her kids said that they are going to come every week so that they can
become members!! The Lord truly does guide us to find the elect.
Painting's that I bought today. (He had to buy them before he is
transferred and he is not able to anymore).
Now I want to mention a little bit about conference. For all those who
watched, you know how powerful each message was. I hope you had the chance to
ask questions and see them be answered through the talks. Let me just tell you,
I received many answers. In my personal opinion, I feel that the key message of
the whole conference was to build our families upon Christ and to prepare for
his coming. To be able to help prepare our families and others for that coming of
Christ we need to do missionary work in simple ways through ministering. I hope that you will all take the messages and put them into your life. Listen to the Lords
chosen leaders and you will be guided and blessed in your life.
Sincerely,
Elder Baird
More paintings. :)
Mom's notes:
1. The first painting is for Elder Baird's dad.
2. I told Elder Baird that Elder Klinglesmith doesn't look to happy with his kenkey. He said, "Not at all!"
3. The phone calls are really great. The only downside that I see is that I don't have as many Mom's notes because I am too forgetful. He is doing really well and getting excited for a transfer coming next week. He finds out where he is going on Saturday.
