Well this week was different!
Elder Sebuliba and I
with our convert Sister Norkplim. She loved the temple and she had a big smile
on after she came out from the temple. I was so blessed to be there with her.
This last week was pretty different! Elder Bidi and I
only got 2 days to actually go out and teach, ha ha! On Monday, it was P-day and
then in the evening we had to travel to Dzodze for the night. Then on Tuesday, we
had our district council and then we got to teach for a few hours. On Wednesday, we
had to travel to Accra which is about 3 hours away. We were there all day
Wednesday and Thursday for Elder Bidi to renew his non-citizenship card which
is the ID that identifies us as being legal in Ghana. Then on Friday, we had to
do interviews for a baptism in Dzodze and got to teach a little bit. On Saturday, we traveled back to Accra to do a branch temple trip which was
amazing! SO this last week was crazy busy but really good!
I was helping them
open cassava with a machete. That was interesting!
Here I am just being my goofy self, with a machete, ha ha.
Here I was just watching them pound fufu. I just like
looking at the
background because it lets you really see what it's like here.
One of the people we are teaching is brother Godwill.
Man this guy is so stinking cool. We have met and taught him three times now and
he is just accepting of everything and he asks super inspired questions. SO one night
this last week he called us and asked us to help him with his life because he
feels nothing is working and he feels we are the men with the answers. That made
me so happy to hear because it shows that he trusts us and feels there is
something different about us. The only problem is that he can't pay the travel
to come to church so it's rough not being able to baptize him, but I know that
once we get a chapel he will be one of the first to be baptized!
I got some free Kentai
from a member. :) I am obsessed with this stuff, ha ha.
For my funny story this week, we are teaching a wonderful
family who are all just so awesome. Now the only son they have is named Kelvin.
So we came there to teach them on Friday and he comes up to me and says,
"Elder Baird, I am the only begotten son of my family." My companion
and I started laughing so hard! I honestly didn't expect to hear an 8 year old
kid tell me they are the only begotten son. Man I love him so much!
Here is Kelvin, the
only begotten son, ha ha.

The best part of my week was the temple trip. I got to
go because it was my recent converts first time, Sister Norkplim. We got up at
3:30 a.m. to make it to Accra by the time the temple opens. There was a big group of
people that we went with and most of them were just doing baptisms and
confirmations. Three members of the branch though were able to receive their
endowments. To see the joy on their faces was just such a blessing to witness.
The next day in church everyone was just smiling and every time I asked why
they were so happy they just said, "It's because I was in the house of the Lord yesterday and I was able to feel of his presence for the whole time I was
there." Then our branch president asked the three people who got endowed to
share their testimonies. Their testimonies were just so powerful and the spirit was so
strong there. Being able to see how the temple had changed their lives, was such a great
experience and I am so glad to have been there to witness it.

members who came to the temple with us.
People anxiously wait
for the distribution center to open and once
it opened they just swarmed
inside, ha ha ha.
I love being a missionary. I
get the opportunity to see the change in people as they accept this amazing
gospel. To see people go through the temple is the most rewarding though
because that is the end goal. People think that we are here to baptize and then
move on to the next baptism. But really, we are here to bring people to the temple so they can receive the ordinances necessary for salvation. To be able to be a part of
that is just so amazing. SO for those at home I would like to invite you all to
make it a priority to be attending the temple as much as you can. My challenge
for you all is to go one time every two weeks. We are so blessed with temples being
close to home so why not use it? Our branch has the goal of once a month and
it's three hours of travel. SO I know that all of you can make the 15 drive at least
once every 2 weeks. If you do, I know that the Lord will bless you in so many ways
and you will come to love the Savior more and you will see his hand more in your
life. I love you all and hope you have a great week!!
Sincerely,
Elder Baird
I forgot sunscreen at
the beach last week on my legs, and yes, it hurts, ha ha!
