4 Months down!
Well today marks 4 months! 123 days I have been in Ghana and let me just say I have changed quite a bit!
This last week was pretty good! The best part was on
Thursday I went to Dzodze to do an exchange with Elder Seeley. He is from Idaho
and him and I are very similar! That day we didn't use bikes and we just walked
around in Dzodze to find people to teach. We didn't find anyone to teach and
just visited a little bit with some members. When it was about to get dark we
walked by some kids playing with a ball made out of plastic bags tightly
wrapped together. Elder Seeley looked at me and said, "Give me your camera
and go have fun." SO I did! Man, it was a blast, ha ha! It was pretty much a
game of keep away with me against all of the kids!
Here is the beach! We
went to Aflao for a Zone Activity.
On Sunday, my recent convert, sister Norkplim was
asked to give a talk on faith. It was powerful. She had studied so many
different stories and used so many scriptures to help her. Her favorite one was
1 Nephi 3:7. After she had finished speaking, the branch president got up and
talked about how we should follow Norkplim's example and be studying the gospel
so that we can give a talk like her. I was so proud of her! After sacrament, I
asked her where she had gotten all of those scriptures to use and her response
was one of the greatest things ever. She said, "Elder Baird, I told you, I
read out of the Book of Mormon every day so I am just using the scriptures I
have read." Man, I was so happy to see her devotion with the church and hear of her studying the standard works. We should all follow her example and be
studying the Book of Mormon every day just as President Monson asked all of us to do!
Elder Seeley and I
found milk and cereal so we enjoyed some today! :)
One part of Norkplim's talk that I just loved was the story of
Abraham being asked to sacrifice his only son Isaac. He didn't understand why he was asked by God to do it, but he knew that whatever God asks we must
follow. We have to have the faith that the Lord is in charge. We know that
an angel stopped Abraham from finishing the sacrifice, but I like to ask
myself, "what would God have done if Abraham didn't follow what he was commanded to do?" It
is the same with us. We must have complete faith in the Lord and do whatever he
asks, even though we don't fully understand why.
Got a nice haircut. :)
I love you all and hope you have a great week!
Sincerely,
Elder Baird
Some nice fufu and
ground nut soup!
