Well this week ended with a wonderful surprise. :) 1-14-2019
I want to start off by saying this past week was awesome!!!
First, we got to meet with a man named Samuel. He is living
with a member from Nigeria and he decided to come and see the church for the
first time two weeks ago. He said he loved it and would love it if we would come
and teach him! So we did, on Wednesday, and let's just say it was amazing! HE was
asking some of the coolest questions that were really inspired by the Spirit.
We felt very prompted to give him a baptismal date and he accepted it! He was at
church again and he is progressing very well! Honestly I am so happy for
him!
Another great story, is from one of our members Sister Dorene. On New Years Eve our Bishop had a YSA party. She was invited to
go with her friends to a different party. But she decided to go to Bishop's
party instead. Well it turns out that her other friends disappeared and they don't
know where they are. Well after that happened, her mother told her to take her brother
to our church. NOW, her mother is completely against the church and hates
everything about us. She refuses to talk to any members or missionaries. Well
guess what, she invited us to come teach her!!!!!! We were so shocked!!!! So we
went and taught her and her son (who is ten) along with her daughter Dorene. It was a
wonderful lesson! The mother is still hesitant to come to church
because she is so embedded in her church but she is still willing to listen to
us and she scheduled another lesson with us. This just proves that we should never lose faith
in family who may not want to do anything with the church right now. :)
These are the crafts that I bought today. :)
(He told me that there are some members who sell in the village so they Books of Mormon and missionaries.)
My next experience is another referral we received. Her name is Betty.
We went to her house and she kindly welcomed us in. After just a short
introduction of our names and telling her where we were from, I asked her why she wanted us to
come and teach her. She answered very simply, "I want to know the true
church. My brother says that this is the true church. SO I want to learn and
find out for myself, and if I find out, I will join." The lesson we had
with her was so amazing. The Spirit was there and she was so accepting of
everything we said and she just loved it all! So basically this week we were able to find
some of the best investigators ever! :)
Now let's talk about why the week ended so well. SO in my
old area (Batsonaa) I was teaching these three girls named Quinstar, Ritalord
and Blessilia. I taught them almost the entire time I was there. They were
never able to make the necessary steps to be baptized which killed me because I
knew that they knew it was true. Well on Tuesday I got a call from the
missionaries in Batsonaa telling me they were ready to be baptized and they
asked if I could be present for the baptism. I can't even tell you how
happy I was! I started to freak out! I couldn't believe that they finally were
ready! So on Saturday I attended the baptism and it was wonderful. They asked
me to give the talk about baptism and I was so happy to testify to those girls
once again that indeed this church is true.
I love being a missionary. I truly do. There is nothing
better than serving the Lord as his ordained servant. I encourage you all to be
missionaries in your homes and communities. Share this gospel to the world. IT
truly changes lives.
Sincerely,
1. Transfers are next week. Elder Eliason will be transferred. Elder Baird will get a new companion. He will probably be training again.
2. He is very excited to have another niece/nephew. :) His official prediction is that it is a girl.
3. He is going to buy me a Nativity before he comes home. His mission is going so fast! I can't believe that he will be home in nine months! :)
