Transfer week again!
I was bored today so
I decided to put pictures up in our apartment to make it look like a missionary
apartment. :)
Alright so this last week we had our transfers and I was
able to receive my new companion!
This last week was pretty interesting ha ha! The
way they wanted to do the transfers was pretty interesting. I had to stay in
Dzodze from Monday until Thursday until my new companion arrived. During that time, we
got to do some proselytizing in their area and man, they are very lucky to be
where they are! (I asked why they are lucky and he said that the work is always progressing there!)
On Thursday, I traveled to Aflao to pick up Elder Wilcox
because that is where they decided to send him, ha ha. SO we had a good hour
drive back to Akatsi and we were able to just talk and get to know each other. He is 20 months
on mission, he is from Syracuse, UT so that is pretty cool! We apparently know
each other's friends, ha ha. It's amazing how small the world is while you are on
mission, ha ha.
He he, we got a pancake
mix and some syrup and enjoyed. :)
When we got back to the apartment, I was expecting him to say
something like, "Alright let me unpack all of my stuff and we can just get
started tomorrow." But instead, he set his stuff down and said,
"Alright, who are we seeing right now?" He wanted to just get
straight to work and that honestly made me so happy because I could tell
that we are going to work super hard on this transfer.
So a funny thing that happened the first night I was with him, I was taking a
shower and when I was done I came out and all the lights in the apartment were
off. I was super confused, so I looked in our room to find Elder Wilcox and he
wasn't there. So I turned around to look in the main hall and when I turned
around I heard some weird sound and a super bright light in my face and I
freaked out. Well it turns out that Elder Wilcox had a lightsaber and he decided to scare
the crap out of me with it, ha ha ha.
On the teaching side of things, our chapel will be
opening this Sunday, finally! President Keyes came to the branch in Dzodze and
announced the leadership and how things are going to work out. Man I can't wait
for the church to finally be here! We have put five months of work here in Akatsi, and now
it is finally paying off. I love mission, ha ha to be honest. I have seen many
people grow in this gospel so quickly and it has been the coolest experience
ever. When we were teaching a man named Raoul his friend Samuel came to visit (we have
been teaching him since I first came here). He asked when the chapel was coming
and we told him that this Sunday is when it will be here. He then told us how
he cannot wait to be baptized and he is just so excited to join the church. Then he said he wants to bring his wife so she can also join. Samuel is
probably the strongest investigator we have been teaching. But he isn't the
only one who is ready, all the people we have been teaching are ready and it is
honestly such a blessing to be here.
Missionary work is hard. Life is hard. We have times where
we feel like we aren't getting anywhere. But in reality, we are making huge
progress. I was starting to get sick and tired of being here because there was
no progress. But little did I know, that because we have been working hard, we
have so many people ready and waiting to receive the blessings of this gospel.
NEVER, I mean NEVER give up because it is hard or you feel like you are getting nowhere. If we keep going and endure we will see the fruits of our labors. I
love you all so much and hope you have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,
Elder Baird
Mom's notes:
1. My Mom is very sick with cancer. Her doctor has given her only a few months to live. I had to tell Elder Baird and he seemed to already know. This is what he said, "I talked with
President Keyes about what was going on with her and asked the question of what
if she is about to pass away and would I be able to call her. He said that he
is totally fine with it." (Very grateful for President Keyes!)
2. He says that his new companion is amazing! He said, "He is from Syracuse, he is 20 months on mission, and he is
super obedient and hard-working, but he is so much fun as well. He was a sporty
guy at home so we get along there and he also loves movies. :) (Has anyone noticed how he says things like, "20 months on mission?" He is sounding like a local. :)
4. They will have a normal sacrament meeting and a member from the area will be in charge of it.
5. Elder Wilcox has the same Nerf gun as Landon so they have been having some wars. For their p-day they played cards, cleaned up the place and shot each other with their Nerf guns. ;)
6. They won't have a font in Akatsi and will have to travel to Dzodze on Saturday's for baptisms.
7. They have a busy teaching week planned for the coming week.
