Hello from Akatsi :)

Here I am pounding fufu. :)

Well, this week was just a good normal week!

It went really well! We had a lot of lessons and we are having a lot of progress! Our investigators are really excited to learn and they want to keep learning! Many of them know that what we are teaching is true and they are asking us to be baptized. The only difficult thing is that they can't come to church because of the distance and the cost. Because none of them can make it to church, it brings the challenge of not being able to really get them involved and on the path to baptism. One of the requirements is that they at least attend church 3 times. So it's pretty difficult, but I know that once we get a building everything will take off and go very well. :)

This is what fufu looks like while it is being pounded.

On Wednesday, I got to go on an exchange with our zone leader Elder Mathews from St. George, Utah. He is such a cool guy! We get along very well! He loves airsofting and so we talk about that a lot, ha ha. I think the most amazing thing about this Elder is the faith and strength he has. He told me something that was very, very powerful. His mother had been dealing with cancer for a long time, and about a year into his mission things took a very dramatic turn. His mother was in a very weak state and had some few days to live. Elder Mathews got a chance to call his family and talk to them all before she passed away. After that happened, he got back to work. He told me that he is here on a mission to serve the Lord. Things at home will happen, but that he knows that if he stays faithful and strong the Lord will bless him and strengthen him. Hearing that just blew me away. It's not easy to do that. But his desire to serve the Lord is what has kept him out here. He is so strong in the gospel and teaches with the spirit so well. I am so thankful for the opportunity I had to be with him.

We are doing a service project to help a girl from California who is a volunteer here. She is helping the schools. We are re-organizing a library. All of those boxes are from 10 years ago and are filled with books ha ha. This will be fun!

On Sunday I got the chance to be a part of Sister Norkplim's confirmation. After she was confirmed, she just had a huge smile and was so excited. After church, she asked us to give her all the reading material we can give her so that she can start to study. She was asked to give a lesson this next Sunday and she was just super excited to get the chance to do so! She is already preparing and she is studying the material that she has been given. She is a very strong individual and I am very proud of her for all that is doing. She will become a very great help for the Akatsi branch. :)

Elder Bidi and I eating Akblay and Occro Stew! (akblay is a very thick fufu)

Now for the big blessing of the week. SO I was moving a big pot of boiling water and I accidently spilled it all on my foot. It burned my foot actually pretty bad and I couldn't really walk on it. My companion told me that if I needed to take the day off I could. I was faced with 2 choices. Suffer through the pain and go out, or stay inside and see if it would get better. I said a quick prayer and I got a strong feeling that I needed to go out and teach. So I did. At first it hurt pretty bad. But after a small amount of time it stopped hurting. When we got back that night, the burn was completely gone. I don't know how that happened. I will send you the picture of the burn. I don't know how it managed to heal in just that short amount of time. So from that, I had a very strong spiritual prompting that told me that if you place the Lord first he's going to bless you. And he did. He blessed me and I am so thankful for it.
Here is my burned foot. It was pretty bad ha ha, but it was completely gone that same night! What a blessing! :)
The Lord loves us all and He blesses each one of us! Please follow him in all your thoughts, actions and deeds. He is there for you. I am a very personal witness to that now. I love you all and hope you have a wonderful week!! :)

Sincerely,

Elder Baird

These are the coffins I found here haha. An alligator for a hunter and ...

... a fish for a fisherman.

  1. Wow! What a miracle his foot was healed. I loved the story of Elder Matthews too. Our youth are so strong. It amazes me!
