Well May flew by!
Some parts of my area.
Man, May flew by! I don't know about you guys but it doesn't feel like it should be
June yet, ha ha!
This
last week was a good one! It was interesting as well, ha ha. Tuesday we had our
interview with President Keyes and it went really well. He talked to us a lot
on how we should stay focused on the work and he emphasized that we should be out early in the morning and
coming back late in the evening. He has a mission goal of 1,500 baptisms and it's appearing to
be really difficult to achieve that goal because the missionaries don't think that it is possible. So President has been asking us to really dig deep within ourselves
and make that goal a reality. He also gave us the talk that President Nelson
gave in the last conference and asked us to really read it and study it. I
did it and I have grown to love it even more. It makes me excited for what
might be happening in the near future.
I have figured out
how to solve the infamous Rubix cube. :)
Something really cool that happened this last week was on Saturday. We had a
goal of 6 new investigators for the week. Unfortunately, we only had one and it was Saturday. We decided to go to a new area in order to hopefully find a bunch of new investigators.
We were walking around this crowded are for about 25 minutes and I couldn't
find anyone that I felt impressed to see. So I stopped my companion and said,
"Lets say a prayer and ask for guidance." So we said a prayer on the
side of the road and then went back to finding some new people. Just a few minutes
later, we noticed a girl sitting by herself so we went to talk with to her. Her
name was Linda and she was definitely interested in what we were teaching. Her
friend Agnes walked by and we asked her if she wanted to join us. She said she
had to go buy some things so she was too busy and she left.
We started our
lesson with Linda and only 2 minutes later Agnes came back and said, "I
have changed my mind, I want to learn from you guys first." So we taught a
wonderful lesson with them. Afterwords, they seemed so excited to continue
learning with us and they just can't wait to come to church. They had already
scheduled to work on Sunday before we met them but they said they are wanting
to move their schedule around so they can come and join us. They were also
asking if it would be okay to bring friends and of course we said they can! They seem super excited to continue learning from us. I feel the Lord guided
us to these 2 girls.
The Internet cafe
that is in a shipping container, ha ha.
Yesterday was fast and testimony meeting so I decided to go up and share my
testimony on prayer. I talked about how prayer is something so simple but
sometimes we take for granted what a wonderful gift it is that we can speak
directly to our Father in Heaven. I then encouraged them to pray in every
situation in life. Sometimes we forget to pray when we need it most. I also
want to encourage you all to pray whenever you feel it necessary and never
second guess why you are praying. Heavenly Father will answer your prayers if
you have the faith that he will answer them. I love you all and hope you have a
wonderful week!!!:)
Sincerely,
Elder
Baird
Mom's notes:
1. He has a combined FHE with the ward today so he was happy about that.
2. He is starting to figure out the area. He said that it is pretty difficult.
3. His meeting with President Keyes went well. He said that they talked about how they could change the mission culture to be harder working and more obedient.
4. He says that he is eating like an American and that it is really nice eating things from home. He said he was about to go buy some Pop tarts. I told him that he was going to go soft. :)
5. He asked for piano music. He said that they are going to get an electric piano for their apartment.
6. He says to tell Grandma Carol that he loves her and he is praying for her.
7. I asked about his scripture study. His response was, "My scripture study has been on only reading the Book of Mormon and marking every time Christ is mentioned or He speaks. Man, I have learned that Christ is literally the center of the Book of Mormon. I didn't realize it until now." He also said, "It's a wonderful experience. I honestly love waking up and getting straight to studying. I love reading for an hour every day. I thought I would hate it but I love it now."
