Busy, busy work week here!

Image
This is one of the missionaries in our apartment. His name is Elder Wehyee from Liberia. We came back and found him like this yesterday, ha ha. Man this last week was probably one of the busiest weeks we have had so far! We had so many lessons to go to this week it was insane! People were actually wanting us to come and see them, so much so, that they were actually calling us! The only problem was, I have been writing down the wrong phone number the whole time that I have been here so we never got any of the calls.....  Hee hee, so this week we are going to fix that, ha ha ha.  The joy of finding mozzarella  sticks! :) #mineandhailey'sfavoriefood #bairdfamilychristmaseve A funny thing happened, we went to visit a members house and while there one of the kids wanted to show us where one of his friends live. It was far away and he had a wonderful idea (not really it hurt a lot , ha ha)! A common African thing that they do here is that they put two peo...

Man! Nine months down!

Image
This little girl, on Sunday, wouldn't let me leave so our bishop's wife had to grab her as we sneaked out the back, ha ha ha. Nine months have flown by! I don't even know where the time has gone.  This last week, was super hard. We just couldn't seem to find any success. I was down and discouraged for about half of the week and by Wednesday I had enough. I called my trainer and ranted to him for a bit and I was so frustrated. I was comparing myself to other missionaries because for the past nine months I have had the same struggle of getting people to come to church. In Akatsi it was because of the distance, in this area, it is the exact same. It's very far to travel. So as I talked with my trainer he just told me, "Give it to the Lord and ask him for help." SO I did. I went inside and knelt down and poured out my heart to the Lord. I asked for help, guidance and many other things.  I was taking a picture of this street, because I thought ...

Another week of just working!

Image
This past week I have had 3 flat tires..... Last week we just worked hard again, but it was definitely difficult! Our area is struggling to have much progress, but we are trying our very hardest. We are finding some very good potential people so we are hoping they will continue to progress and that they want to learn if this is really the truth.  Here is a pretty funny story for you guys. When we were coming back for lunch one day, a lady in our compound said "Hey!" I turned around and was thinking to myself, "Does she want to learn from us??" I was really excited, ha ha! So we walked back to her and she said, "Can you help me with something?" SO. me being me, I said "of course we can!" She then turned around and asked, "Will you undo the zip on my dress?" Let me just say, I was very let down by this, ha ha ha. So I helped her and she just left without asking us any other questions. My companion just looked at me and said...

A very hardworking week!

Image
Elder Baird was so busy that he didn't take any pictures this week. These are pictures that Sister Keyes posted on Facebook. It is of his companion, Elder Wilcox and two people that he baptized that Elder Wilcox and he taught before he left the area. He was very happy that they are baptized now. (I need to find out what their names are. :) I will just start off by saying that this week was a very hard working week.  Our mission President came last week to ask me personally if I think we should close the area that I am in. I was quite caught off guard with that question. The reason he asked that question is because the missionaries who were here in the past didn't work as hard as they should have so it seemed like the area was having very little success. SO my companion and I said that we are going to work super hard to see if we can get this area going. We worked and worked and worked. Every time a lesson fell through, we would go and knock on gates for houses ...

Training has commenced!

Me with my trainer Elder Sebuliba (right) and my trainee Elder Alumande (left ). Training is going pretty well! My new companion's name is Elder Alumande from Kenya. HE is doing super well and is learning how to teach really well and he is honestly teaching me a lot. Something pretty funny is that everyone we meet laughs because here I am this little white guy with a huge African as my companion, ha ha. So it's been pretty fun this last week to take him around.  My last companion Elder Blanchard. A cool story that I wanted to share happened on Sunday. I was going through the area book, (for those who don't know what it is, it's a way for missionaries to keep track of all of their investigators and you keep records of who you teach and what you have taught them). so as I was going through them I was prompted to look at a specific one that looked super old. I can't remember her name at the moment, ha ha but I decided to have some courage and to give he...

A wonderful week for the West Africa area!

Asumta's baptism So this last week was a super cool experience!  On Tuesday, we had my first baptism in this ward and it was a wonderful experience. Her name is Asumta, she progressed super-fast and just couldn't wait to be baptized. We actually asked if we could postpone it so more people could come and she just said, "I don't care if anyone is there, I just want to be baptized." So we had it on Tuesday! The only ones there were her sister, her brother in law, the four missionaries in this area, our ward mission leader, and two sisters who came to support.  Me helping in the program, ha ha. It was still wonderful though. The spirit was just amazing and you could see the joy on her face as she was waiting to be baptized. Her brother in law baptized her and immediately after Asumta was just in tears. She was so happy to be baptized and it was such a beautiful moment to witness. After she was baptized, her brother in law wanted to share a fe...
